MDI Editorial

A word from Acting Principal

MDI Acting Principal, Madam Irene Ayaa in her office

It is with great pleasure and honour that I introduce to you the Media Development Institute (MDI) Student’s Journal. This is so far the first journal launched for the fourth batch of the Media Development Institute (MDI), the training wing of the Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS) in Juba since the institute was established in 2014. The journal to be edited by the students themselves is actually an appropriate ingredient of media training. It is part and parcel of the Institute because the trainees are being taught journalism, a course at the end of its duration will expose the graduates to practical news production in a newspaper or as broadcasters in a radio and television stations.

In broadcasting, it is a good advantage for a journalist who has been trained in writing for qualitative broadcast material. In fact production of a newsletter or a bigger volume like a journal should be ingrained in the training curriculum so that when the tutors talk about newspaper production, the students should have an idea of what they are expected to do on completion of their course at the MDI. This also cultivates the culture of good writing in them. Writing and submitting good articles for this journal will give some experience to the students and on graduation they should be in a position to report and even edit articles for the newspapers or radio stations that will employ them.
